Jonn Herschend is a writer, director, and interdisciplinary artist whose work explores the blurred boundaries between fiction and reality. Drawing from a background in contemporary art, publishing, and filmmaking, he creates visually distinctive stories that combine curiosity, humor, and a deep understanding of human behavior.
His work has been exhibited and screened nationally and internationally, including at the Whitney Museum of American Art, the Telluride Film Festival, SITE Santa Fe, and the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art. As a commercial director, Jonn has created films and campaigns for brands including Aetna, Nike, Levi’s, Harlem Globetrotters, Pop-Up Magazine, Austin Contemporary.
Jonn is the co-founder and co-editor of THE THING Quarterly, the acclaimed experimental publication that has collaborated with some of the world’s leading artists, writers, and cultural institutions. His work has been recognized with honors including the SFMOMA SECA Award, the Fleishhacker Eureka Fellowship, and support from the Danish Arts Council.
Whether directing a commercial, documentary, or narrative project, Jonn brings an artist’s perspective to storytelling, creating work that is visually inventive, emotionally resonant, and impossible to mistake for anyone else’s.
