He won! Revelator is happy to announce that our Head of Production, Chris Ohlson, has been awarded the prestigious 18th Annual Piaget Producers Award. The Film Independent Spirit Award’s Producers Award honors emerging producers who demonstrate the creativity, tenacity and vision required to produce quality, independent films. Chris produced two independent films this year, the forthcoming KUMIKO, THE TREASURE HUNTER, and Revelator’s THANK YOU A LOT (SXSW 2014.) We’ve been crossing our fingers since the news of the nomination in November, and after that crazy press-love last week, it seems like all that finger-crossing and the well-wishes paid off.

Actors Emmy Rossum and Michael Pena presented Chris with the award this past Saturday at the the organization’s annual Spirit Awards nominees brunch, held at West Hollywood’s Boa Steakhouse, and saw Chris, Dan Krauss, Rania Attich and Daniel Garcia take home top awards. “Winning the The Piaget Producers Award is a tremendous honor,” Ohlson said. “There are very few awards that recognize producers for the work that they do behind the scenes, so it’s really nice to be recognized by a tremendous organization, in Film Independent. I feel like the Spirit Awards are a ceremony and a celebration of the films that I want to see and that I want to make, so it’s incredibly validating and exciting to be a part of them this year.”

As the first event to honor independent film exclusively, the Film Independent Spirit Awards has made a name for itself as the premier awards event for the independent film community, and is a celebration of the spirited pioneers who bring a unique vision to filmmaking. “At Film Independent our mission is to support independent filmmakers all year long, helping them to get their films made and to build the audience for their work,” Film Independent president Josh Welsh said on Saturday.

Chris will now attend the Independent Spirit Awards on February 21, along with KUMIKO, THE TREASURE HUNTER director David Zellner, who is nominated for Best Director, and Kumiko actress Rinko Kikuchi, who is nominated for Best Actress. You can watch Chris get some props at the awards show, since The Independent Spirit Awards will air that same Saturday, February 21 on IFC. Thanks again to all of the Revelator friends for all of the well-wishes and congrats since the award.
