The Elegantly Wasted music video brings together Hermanos Gutiérrez and Leon Bridges in a cinematic collaboration filmed inside Dallas’ historic Texas Theatre. Directed by Matt Muir and produced by Revelator, the video blends atmospheric visuals, vintage projections, and soulful performances to create a visual experience that mirrors the song’s timeless mood. The project was also selected to screen in competition at the Tribeca Film Festival as part of the festival’s official shorts program.
The Texas Theatre provided more than just a backdrop—it shaped the entire aesthetic of the film. Its vintage architecture, fading textures, and theatrical lighting offered a perfect visual counterpoint to the song’s mood. We chose to shoot primarily on-location with minimal production design, allowing the theater’s existing details to carry the atmosphere. This helped the video feel grounded and emotionally authentic.
To deepen the visual tone, we used projected film reels, classic Westerns, and wide desert vistas to cast texture and movement across the performers and the screen of the theater. These projections weren’t just visual flair. They reinforced the themes of solitude, wanderlust, and timeless longing that run through the track. Combined with anamorphic lenses, practical lighting, and subtle camera choreography, the result was a visual world that matched the introspective and cinematic nature of the music.
Both Hermanos Gutiérrez and Leon Bridges are known for crafting music that feels steeped in place and memory. Our goal was to match that level of intentionality visually. The production design blended the warmth and raw intimacy of the Texas Theatre’s rehearsal space with stark and moody stage elements—allowing vintage projections and natural light to shape the striking visual atmosphere. We used long performance takes, warm color palettes, and a restrained edit to let the performances breathe. The pacing of the video mirrors the song’s rhythm—unhurried, deliberate, and immersive. This approach allowed us to complement the artists’ sound without overwhelming it.
As an Austin-based video production company, Revelator understands how to work with artists to build visuals that enhance the emotional impact of the music. “Elegantly Wasted” is a strong example of that ethos. From initial concept to final frame, the goal was to stay in step with the tone and texture of the track—and to create a space where these distinct musical voices, brought together by Easy Eye Sound, could meet in a unified cinematic vision.
