More Great Press for Kumiko

We’ve been doing our best to keep up with the buzz since the theatrical release of Kumiko, the Treasure Hunter last week. We’re happy to see the film, produced by Revelator’s own Chris Ohlson, creating lots of positive chatter. One of our favorite reviews so far was brought to us by Salt Lake City Weekly, just a few miles from Park City, Utah where Kumiko premiered at the Sundance Film Festival over a year ago.

Salt Lake City Weekly calls the film “a kind of feminist road-trip fable, a spiritual cousin of sorts to Thelma & Louise,” in which we follow a frustrated office lady from Japan to America as she attempts to find a greater sense of significance in the form of literal treasure. Giving it four stars, the review praises Kumiko, the Treasure Hunter for having one of the most heartbreaking scenes of the year.

Of course, we’ve been gleaming with pride at the film’s festival achievements, most notably Chris receiving the Film Independent Spirit Awards’
Piaget Producers Award
, but we’re looking forward to seeing how the film impacts more people throughout its theatrical run. We want you to decide if it’s worthy of praise! See if it’s screening in theatres near you and tell us what you think.
